Colours (Two Painters)

by Black Velvet Butterfly

/

about

Colours (Two Painters) is heart felt and mournful. A song about the death of my mother, described through the analogy of painting. Losing my mother at 20 is something I've never gotten over and is an inspiration for many of my songs. I usually don't know they're about her straight away, but I guess if the pain needs to come out, it will come out. Song writing is my therapist.

lyrics

Blue Mascara swirls in a pool of tears
It's no wonder she looks like a pale ice sculpture
Two faces peer at each other
Two painters left to wonder

Rest your hand on my cheek to colour me in
Your soft breath is on me the smell of your skin
Why would you brush me then spill my paint
I feel like I'll never have colours again

Pump yur mothers morphine beside her hospital bed
Now her picture presides in all its glory
Jesus will save you but only after you die
My colours are bleeding, my paint won't seem to dry

Rest your hand on my cheek to colour me in
Your soft breath is on me the smell of your skin
Why would you brush me then spill my paint
I feel like I'll never have colours again
